I don't have too much trouble with rashes except when I wear a 7mm wetsuit for the Pacific off California for multiple dives on live aboards. Is there something to put on prior to diving to reduce or eliminate this problem? I was thinking about shaving down the leg hair and use Aquaphor or Vasaline behind my knees as that seems to be the trouble spot? Any ideas out there?
Thanks, O man in Redding, CA

DH uses bodyglide. It has a consistency between sticky wax and vaseline, so it stays put. It's specifically designed for chafing, and you can get it at running/cycling/sports stores. I'm not 100% sure it's good for wetsuits, but since it washes off with water I would assume it's OK.

When I used to dive for a job, i worked in a suit for around 6 hrs per day. For thick suits, i always wore a lycra dive skin underneath (and socks under my boots). they both helped tremendously.

you have hair growing behind your knees?

Was that directed at me? Well, as a matter of fact i got hair growing EVERYWHERE. It even grows inside of my nose!

Spandex, lycra under suit, some conditioner applied liberally.

Suits usally have pre-bends in the joint areas. If you hitch it just right that normally should reduce chaffing.

I second the dive skin suggestion- it also makes putting on a 7 mil easier. In addition, consider your swimming position. You may want to straighten your legs a little, so there is less bend at the knee. Ask a dive buddy to observe and evaluate your leg position.

lol nope

was for OP, but I have hair inside my nose, but there are a few areas it does not grow, like behind my knees, inside my elbows and other high bend areas.

Go for the dive skin. I had problems with chafeing my toes on 3 day lobster trips. My first fix was duct tape which solved the problem and had the added satisfaction of mortifying my daughter and entertaining the boat crew. I got a pair of dive socks which was, over all, a better solution.

+1 for the socks. Makes donning and doffing much easier as well.
