If I can find my dive light, anyone up for a Monday nite dive? I have been *****ing and moaning about missing the big squid run, and here I sit on the couch while HBDIve Girl has two, maybe three amazing dives! :^

Any time - 7, 8, 9.... and maybe bring a dive light to loan? :) (we're moving and it must have ended up in a box somewhere, going now to look again)........

Also need to find the friggin camera......

Just drove by Vets (think they were in the water ) four boats out and FOUR cars in the lot! If we miss the run, we'll be kicking oursleves.....

7:00 or 8:00 tomorrow night. I am so there with you. I can't provide a primary light, though. Sold wifie's Sartek and the replacement won't be in until Thursday.

PM me - lets work out the details.

I have a spare c-6 you can borrow. But what time? 7 pm works for me. But 8 would be OK too. Last time I was at Vets there no live squid, few eggs, but seal bombs in abudance. It would be nice to see some live ones this year.

Hi Chris, Happy squid hunting tonight. We did see lots of squid again last night, but the viz in the canyon was awful...maybe 3-5 feet, and sort of chalky white. The viz was much better on the sandy flats between 20 and 40 fsw, but the squid are thin there. The squid at 65 fsw were still great and plentiful, just harder to see in the murk...sure could feel them all over me, though!!
I like going to the North end of Vet's beach where the slope of the canyon is steeper. (entering around the stairs half-way between the showers and Tony's on the pier.) Fri & Sat the viz in the canyon was clear, but last night 3 of the boats had moved into this area. I'm wondering if the anchors, and the working of the anchor chains as the boats moved on the surface chop, were responsible for the silted conditions???
If I were to go again, I think I might try to avoid the areas with the boats, but who knows??
On Thursday afternoon, I went straight out from the bathrooms and saw several new clutches of squid eggs there, too. We surfaced at sunset that day, so no squid because it was too early.
Hope you all have a great time...it's always more fun than the couch!!

Were the boats dropping seal bombs?

Roger...yeah, Saturday night Claudette and I experienced a seal bomb...even though I knew it might come...it still scared the $%*t out of me...What an awful feeling...I hate those things...they should be banned...

We had a VERY loud one tonight. I think I should start taking a surface float with a flaregun in it for a little post-dive target practice.

There were several bombs on our dive tonight. Chris and I were ascending, and we were at about 20 feet - and one went off right over us. We looked at each other and gave the thumbs-up at the same moment.

At least I think that's what he gave me. It could have been any finger... who could tell in that viz.

LOL, yeah, right, that was my thumb ..... :crafty:

I owe Ken one for introducing him to Redondo on probably the worst night of the year. And you know he loves beach diving anyway.......

I did in fact see more squid on that one dive than ever before, probably on all dives put together. SO there was that.......
