Thank's for your kind words. It is quite easy to get good shark photographs in Sudan due to the abundance of various spieces. In some areas they are also fed some times, which maybe isn't to correct, but even divers who do not feed can benefit from that, because sharks come in close to see if you have any bakksheesh (arabic for gift). Let's hope they can stay on the reefs and avoid shark fishermen who already have destroyed so many reefs in Asia.

Some facts: The Sudanese coast line occupies the central/northern parts of the western Red Sea coast. Port Sudan is approximately a two hour flight south of Cairo (roughly 350 miles south of what some tour operators is reffering to as the "deep south Red Sea" – this might give you a perspective on the knowledge level of some tour operators).

Christian great photos :p What camera setup were you using?

Did you take the whale shark shots in Sudan too?

Pictures where taken with a MMIIEX and some of them with a single YS 60, but most with dual YS 60:s a 20 mm wide angle lens and a 16 mm wide angle lens.

Yes, the whale shark was in Sudan as well on the Sha'ab Rumi reefs eastern wall. A couple of years a go I did a dive on this part of the reef, because we wanted to explore all the perimeters of the reef - this part is very seldom dived. Then we almost landed on a giant manta ray when back rolling from the dingy. In 2001 I went to this part of the reef again with some other divers. I was telling them about what had happened there a few years ago and I joked about maybe we will see another manta. A few minutes into the dive, this young female whale shark swims by!!! Not very common waters for whale sharks, but almost anything is possible.

cheers

Christian

ok how many pictures do you take on a dive or on a dive trip, and what number do you consider good enough to keep?

of the number that you keep, what/how many would be considered good enough to enter in a photogrphic comp?
