Depth gauges aren't accurate enough for Guinness. Thats why they worked on the rope (materials, stretch and angle in water with weight) which gives a relatively solid gauge of depth. Most commercial diver depth gauges aren't accurate enough at the limit of their range, changes in water temp and salinity will also play a role, as they measure ATA not absolute depth below surface, even a stormy day will throw them off. Not an issue for diving as we need ATA for deco, not absolute depth, but it's enough of an issue to make them unreliable for world record purposes.All the tags should be permanently attached to a depth gauge for verification. It costs peanut.

Also, you might want to consider the political situation in Egypt atm. Just might make sense to remain anonymous when questioning the veracity of a major achievement by a state employee. There's a reason why whistleblower legislation is needed to protect the identity of whistleblowers, even in first world countries.
