The SK-7 is brand new that I have and it is in the current stock wrist mount. The only way I can see it coming out is to remove the bezel. Has anyone tried this? Does the bezel pop off, screw off? Does it even come off? The SK7 mount isn't really that bad I just hate how it slides around when my wetsuit compresses. The Vytec Strap I hate though. It is way too long.

I picked up an old Ikelite. I don't like it. The orientation of the headings is the opposite of what I am used to.
I really like those. What you are used to is compass with a card, a disk that spins that has the numbers on it. You change your direction while the disk stays constant and orient yourself to it. The Ikelight (which is actually an old Suunto) has a needle and the numbers are marked on the body of the compass. With it you change your direction until the needle is pointing to the course you want.

The bezel and friction ring are what retain the liquid filled compass.

What's required to remove the bezel and friction ring can differ from OEM mount to mount.

I tried a wrist mount when I first bought a compass. I have my dive computer on my left wrist and I put my compass on my right wrist. So at the start of a dive, I would put my right arm in front of my body and I bent my elbow at a 90 degree angle. I would then move my bezel to dial in my compass heading.

During the dive I would have to get my arm in the very same position and I found that rather annoying. If I didn’t get my arm at the correct angle, it would throw of my coordinates. So I sold my wrist mount compass and I bought a clip on compass. I clip it onto my BC at chest height using a retractor. That way, every time I use it is always oriented towards my body in the same way.

I have only dived in cold water using a thick wetsuit or a drysuit, so the elbow angle thing might be more of an issue for me than it is for you.

Like wrist mounted and the Suunto SK-7 is a great compass. Would recommend it.

I dove for many, many years in a 3/8" wet suit. What I found was that my navigation was much more accurate with a wrist mounted compass because knew when the lubber line was right, based on the bend in my elbow. I always mounted the compass on a gauntlet or glove and usually cheated the required angle a dash.

. . . The Vytec Strap I hate though. It is way too long.

The Vytec strap can easily be cut shorter! Unfortunately I did this to mine and then bought Zip Seal wrist seals for my DUI drysuit and suddenly needed that extra length on the wrist strap; had to buy a replacement strap.
