Just returned from a short vacation in Cozumel. Ate at 9 restaurants in 4 days. Loved the food. I particularly liked the green spicy habanero salsa the restaurants served; Rockin' Java had a really nice one. It was oily and green, and spicy. I'm assuming it was made fresh and not purchased in a jar. Does anyone have a recipe?

There are a million recipes and very different.

But I think the one you are referring to is olive oil with chopped up habaneros - and maybe some garlic, salt and pepper

wouldn't green mean tomatillos were included?

No - I don't think he is referring to green salsa - and it wouldn't have oil in it.

Habaneros are green, some red - the oil and habanero sauce is common in several places here - it looks green from all of the chopped up green habanero - it's VERY spicy but so good!

And there are several green salsas that don't have tomatillos (green tomatoes) in them

Christi that sounds about right. It's served in a jar with a spoon so you can stir it up before serving, and there's a whole green habanero in the jar.

I knew I'd get an answer on here :). I've been lurking on here for a couple years so I know you guys like your food. I used some of the archived threads in this forum to make decisions on where to dine.

One of my 'other' favorite versions of this is to take the whole green habanero and filet and seed it. (Use gloves or you'll be sorry when you next touch your junk). Roast these over open flame until they char a bit. Dice them and add fresh squeezed lime juice, a tiny bit of olive oil and sea salt!!!!
