I saw one from a boat in 2006. It was on Sunfish on our way to Santa Cruz. I was just staring out to the side and saw the dorsal and caudal about 5 yards from the boat. The distance from fin to fin was about 6-7 feet.

I do not know, but I have been told that the worlds largest breeding ground for the GWS is in Morro Bay. Granted they do have about 4-5 attacks in Monterey each year, most aren't fatal.

Sorry, I don't have the link to that site... I deleted the original message. However, if you did a search on GWS, Sundiver and Sand Dollar you might find it.

I heard from one of the captains on the Sundiver. They did NOT see great whites from their boat, nor did their divers. Apparently there was a radio transmission from the other boat indicating great whites had been sighted at a site they were diving, but I have heard no details from anyoine with first-hand experience.

I guess it's time to clean the port on my HD camcorder and head out this weekend. I now if I'm carrying the camera, I'll never see a GWS.

I was freedive spearfishing for yellowtail at ship rock 2 years ago and another boat that was anchored on the west side kept yelling and pointing at the water... I was in the water on the north east side and didn't pay too much attention to what they were doing. After we got back to the boat the captain explained that the people on the other boat had seen a shark and freaked out. I was glad I didn't see anything that looked higher up the food chain than me!!
