Hi all,

I just returned from Cozumel. It was awesome.

I had rinsed and dried out all my gear on the last day so I would not have to do it here at home. My wife, at customs, decided she did not want to carry her two bottles of wine on the last flight, so she thought she put them in her dive bag. She actually put them in my dive bag. The one with the 6 pound stainless steel backplate going into the cargo hold of the plane.

The wine, needless to say, broke all over my gear. I took it all apart to get the acidic red wine out of my Diverite Rec wing. Fortunately my regs and computer were in another bag.

After reassembly the lower dump valve leaks on inflation. This does not seem right. I have ordered a new valve from Diverite because I would like to have a back-up anyway. But can anyone tell me if this valve should leak before the overflow valve opens? It is not leaking through the overflow valve. Putting the BC in water shows it to be leaking at the gasket of the wing.

Ugh. I hope this is just a $12 fix.

Unscrew it, clean it, and reseat it.........should be fine

I've tried it a few times. But I will head out to the garage and try it again. It could be operator error.

BTW-Wing was new in april and has almost 20 dives on it.

The lower dump valve is an overpressure valve and should vent if you over inflate. If it only leaks at maxumum inflation, that is normal. If it leaks at other times, I'd unscrew it again and make sure the valve is clean. Also, be careful as you reassemble it as it it not hard to crossthread which may also cause a leak.

Yeah. I noticed that right away when reassembling the top valve. Plastic is funny that way. It is leaking before overinflation. I am gonna try again.

Be VERY careful and PATIENT when screwing it on. Mine has the tendency to want to go on crooked and screw up the threads. So take your time. I will from time to time use a lubricant especially designed for plastics that makes it much easier to remove after a few ocean dives. Got it at Lowes or Home Depot....might want to look into that.

And,,,,unbelievable....TSA "confiscated" it out of my check in bags on my last trip. Back to the store........hope the ******* that took it chokes.

OK....Got the new dump valve from diveriteexpress.com and it still leaks. I called Northeast Scuba Supply (where I bought the wing) and the recommend aquaseal if I cannot get it to quit leaking.

Now I gotta get the wife to quit spilling wine on mu dive gear!

I would be careful about using Aquaseal on it. Aquaseal can be very difficult to get off if you have to change the valve out later. I would use a clear silicone sealant to seal the valve to the bladder. It seals well and if you need to remove it later you can peal it off without too much trouble.

Well, I took the whole damn thing apart today and I have a hole in the bladder near the valve. Do folks patch these holes, or do I need to replace the bladder?

Thanks,

I have not had to do it but I do believe you can patch it like a bicycle inner tube. I have also heard that aqua seal will patch a small hole. Give it a try, what have you got to loose? Good luck!
