To my knowledge, Oceanic provides a password for computer training with the purchase of a computer. Perhaps other manufacturers should do the same? Oceanic still does this right?
 
Is it just me, or does that seem ridiculous? Who surfs, swims, snorkels or sails around 300 feet deep?

You misunderstood the information. It's complicated, but there is a pretty standard code for what those depth indications mean, and they don't mean that the watch will work at that depth.
