Thanks so much for your very helpful reply. Next question- is there a place in Manhattan you would recomend for prelim classes? I don't just want to pick a random off the internet...

This is a new shop. I met Paul and his wife in Roatan. He is very patient and gentle. I feel that he would be very good for your basic instruction.

Good luck and have fun,

Diving Medicine FAQs
Breast Implants

Q: I have breast implants. I would like to learn to dive, but am afraid of what the pressure will do to the implants. Are there any studies on this?

The best dive shop to help with certification in NYC is: Pan Aqua

What is this opinion based on?

the TV Show Myth Busters did a segment on "exploding" breast implants myths.

They took them and put them in a pressure chamber and and altitude chamber to try to get to "blow". They had to put to pressures that would kill someone at a fraction of that amount before they blew.

Like everyone else says, you'll be OK. However I wouldn't dive for several weeks directly after surgery. Consult your doctor or DAN on that.

Length of time they have been in continuious business. Volume of business. Success rate. Experience level of staff. Their attitude. I got certified there. The level of the gear they service, rent, sell. Their respect and fame in the scuba business.

Who do you like better in the City?

Pan Aqua is who I used to get my OW cert and nitrox. They are a well established dive shop. Very legitimate and respected. If I can be of any help PM me. Use the phone and address I provided above. If you need more info let me know
