Personally, at my skill level, I don't see a need for a reel, but I like to make things. I have a PILE of really nice, thick, HDPE plastic once used as tooling in an FDA approved bottling plant. Also, I have access to a decent machine shop, and mediorce machinist skills. The stuff is in too small of pieces to make a BP but plenty to make a few bad, (tests,) and a few good reels. I would like to know more about the function, does the reel need to rachet in one direction? or a brake for both directions? tension adjustments? I am thinking probably 3-500 feet of line, #36 sound about right? I understand a few different units are used for disimilar purposes, but is the function the same? OR, would certain features be better for certain functions?

please go easy on the old fat rec diver insults.....
