Not tight-lipped, just out of town, out of touch.... :)

I'll contact you in the next week or two to see if you're interested in some weekend diving at Front Beach in Rockport. We'd probably have some company, if you don't mind, because I've been neglecting my other buddies too much lately.... :shakehead:

As was mentioned, lobsters will be pretty scarce until the water warms up a bit more, but I'll be glad to provide as much assistance and guidance as a non-licensed person can.... ;)

plenty of bugs in RI, haven't tried Cape Ann this year yet.
you got to consider that humans are not the only ones who like lobsters so they adapted.
look for places where the bugs can hide - i would recommend any places with bolders and crevices. that usually means that if you are looking for bugs you can't just walk down the nice sandy beach, most of the places i know are either boat dives or a little more challenging.
cathedral comes into mind but please don't go there alone if you just took your refresher, go jogging, weightlifting, etc for a couple of months, get in shape get comfortable with the swell and then give it a try. exiting the water can be tricky unless the ocean is perfectly calm (and it usually isn't) - you have to know your way around in there. carrying the gear up the slope is no fun either. i don't take buddies in there, carrying my own equipment down and then up is more then enough for my liking.
plymouth is another place for shore diving but the entrance is no easier (falling apart wooden leader on the ridge).
if you got a boat there's a couple of places of salisbury. there are also some places down the cape, mostly boat dives though.
get some thick, kevlar padded gloves - it will take some pretty painful encounters before you get the skill to grab them without being bit.
a good sign of bugs being around are the mounds of crushed shells next to their burrows. if you are not very noisy you can also notice their antenas sticking out. males, the only ones legal to take, will usually be more aggressive and curious.

Loblollycove, old garden, front beach, back beach. These 2 are right next to each other, and have great entrance and exit point's. Also a boat dive for lobster hunting with Cape Ann divers or Cape ann charters works well too.:D

Any specific places in Plymouth? I live it Quincy, so Plymouth is closer then most of the better known lobster spots North of Boston. I'm new to lobster diving too, so the easier the dive the better for now.

Thanks,
-Joe

I think we are going to get along just fine..........;)

BTW, I will want to ask you a couple of questions about those monks making excellent beer......:cool3:

DiverDMD, your profile says you are from North Andover. I would suggest a diver from North Andover dive Cape Ann. Tons of lobster and great diving. Since you are looking for dive buddies and help with lobstering, I would suggest joining a dive club. There are lots to choose from but here are the ones I am most familiar with. I know the Froggies dive cape ann pretty much every weekend and seem like they are not too far from you so this may be a good fit for you. If you would like to venture south then Quincy is home to the South Shore Neptunes where I am a member. Durning the season we mainly dive off members boats normally leaving from Quincy.

At this time of year you may see a lone lobster here or there but the reality is that lobster are a migratory species and do not come in to shore until July so do not plan on getting many lobsters until then. We normally hunt for sea scallops in the spring.

Also, do not expect anyone to tell you where to go dive for lobster on the internet. Most divers all end up in the same or similar areas but telling others about your spot is not a good idea. There are a couple of good books most of the dive shops have on good dive locations in Mass.
