A couple of questions and some ponderings :)

I'm thinking of doing the rescue diver course for the experience and information contained in it. What I'd like to know, with 52 dives only under my belt, would it be worth doing at my stage or should I wait a while longer? And as I've done all my training so far with PADI, would a different perspective be helpful or are all RD courses much the same?

I'd be grateful for any input.

I have approx the same number of dives and am planning on doing Rescue asap (which is probably Oct-Nov :( ) and I will do DAN O2 course at the same time. I have heard great things about the course and been told by many divers it is very worthwhile. I think don't worry so much about how many dives you have and think on how it will be really worthwhile knowing how to deal with stress, accidents, etc. So yea, IMO, go for it! :)

Not sure about the differences between agencies. I have done my training through SSI but I have heard they are very similar to PADI. If you have a great PADI instructor do it with him/her as it is more the instructor than the agency.

You're right. I'm "overthinking " things as usual! I'll just do it. I had a great instructor for my deep diving so hopefully I'll be able to train with him.

Haha yea no worries. I tend to "overthink" stuff too. Like if someone had said to me in Feb when I got my OW course, that I would have gotten deep qualified by June I would have said "no way" as I started off as a nervous diver. I had a great instructor for some specialties though and it made me realise to start off it is nice to get a bit of training as now I feel pretty comfortable in the water. Rescue will hopefully make me more so as I seem to be able to handle stress in myself when diving fairly well but not so confident as to how I will handle it in others.

I had one dive with a regular buddy and a new guy where the new guy freaked out a bit and my rescue trained buddy handled it pretty well... but I had no idea what to do! That is why I am really keen on doing Rescue. Unfortunately I have to wait til Oct or Nov for my instructor to run the course, oh well that will come around soon enough :)

If you do your course soon, would love to hear how it went! :)

Good grief, if someone had said to me just three months I'd be living 2300 kms to the North of Melbourne, changing careers and doing scuba diving I'd have thought they were bonkers! You're right though, hopefully doing this course will imbue me with a bit more confidence too. Knowledge is good, right?

I've been very lucky to find an instructor who loves teaching and is very patient with me (a necessity!) And yes, I'll let you know how it goes.

Do it. The rescue course is very good in my opinion and I think that every diver should do it. 52 dives is plenty. I think you will find it to be a very rewarding course and you will find that it also makes you more confident in your abilities as a diver in general. Do it.

You're both right. Okay, I will do it, because I need to gain more confidence (as you can see by my posting this in the first place!) :)
