Yup I said it... (I imagine that may raise an eyebrow or two).
Now is there going to be any computer companies out there to support it?
It is difficult to find an ideal timer with all the needs in a simple design.
Totally waiting for someone to come out with a timer that has:
Average Depth (resettable), Current Depth, Run Time (minutes & seconds) and a resettable stop watch function that shows not only minutes but also seconds.
And all this on the same screen would be fantastic....
Any one know of a timer or computer that does all this... even better... anyone know of a computer mfg. that is planning on supporting or writing programs for ratio deco style computers with all the standard mixes?:dontknow:

Uwatec (something or other model name) 2G does most of that, maybe not stop watch I think, and not seconds.

When not diving dry I like to use an analogue watch as a backup timer then use the second hand for stop times. Need to find a watch to go round my drysuit wrist though.

I'm not convinced about the ratio deco computer idea. By not having one you're forced to be aware of the parameters of your dive and adjust your deco accordingly. Having the info right there in your face promotes blindly following the computer. It doesn't know if you've just had a zen dive in bonaire barely moving a muscle in bath warm water or if you've been dragging yourself against current across a freezing wreck in a Norwegian fjord with a leaky drysuit. I'd say you should know your deco obligation at any point during the dive if it were to fail at any time.

I think it could quite easily lull you into diving beyond your ability.

A computer that calculated ratio deco would negate most of the benefits IMO.

LOL, yes quite true... let me reword that, I guess more along the lines of electronic wet notes that you could adjust where you would like to spit up your deco time with the standard mixes built in etc.

Use it somemore and you'll find this unnecessary.

I have to agree with ufcdiver and rjack123.

But more importantly, I see on your profile that you're from Port Alberni. I just moved back to town about a month ago. Are you associated with the VI Dive School? I'm asking because I'm looking for more local people to dive with...

Chris Fenton

Hey Chris,
Nope not associated with the school but do know a handful of local Teckies. The Port Alberni location is a good friend of mine. My place is a bit further south.
PM me and I can put you intouch.

Ya, I guess my version of electronic wet notes may be more of a pain in the ass than they are worth. And honestly 9 times out of 10 I dont even look at my notes as I do know exactly where I'm at unless the dive profile has changed.
But great comments on the Tec 2G and will look into Uemis SDA.

Can UWATEC possible improve upon the display/fonts of the Tec2G. The computer is the equivalent of the video game Pong in the mid-70's...

:D

Yeah, my aging eyes would very much like a bigger and better display. Tried the stick-on lenses, but can't find a way to keep them fog free.
