I am looking for a ratchet reel for my 12 year old daughter.

She struggles with my Light Monkey Reel due to the free flow design which makes DSMB deployment challenging.

My Kent Tooling small composite ratchet reel is a bit too big for her hands which also challenges her when deploying her DSMB.

Therefore, what quality ratchet reel would you recommend for someone with small hands?

I am considering getting her the Manta Jr reel. Would this be a good choice for deploying a DSMB and for someone with small hands?

    Thank you in advance.

Why not a finger spool for DSMB?

I have an Apeks spool and she did not like it; again, they can be a bit difficult to use.

    Thanks

Apeks spools are nicely made but are actually not as easy to use as a simple delrin or even a really cheap plastic one. The Apeks spools are better for big hands in dry gloves and that may not be appropriate for your daughter.

Try an IST 15m one, at under £10gbp it won't break the bank if she doesn't like it.

I got one of these a few months ago.

AP Pocket Reel | AP Diving

It has a push button to release the brake. It is spring-loaded, so if you release the button, the reel locks. But, it comes with instructions on how to take the spring out, if you want to make it positive lock and unlock.

It seems pretty good quality. This is what it looks like in my hand. I wear L or XL gloves, depending.
