Rare black jellyfish spotted off the coast of San Diego

How cool is that?! I love when people find rare critters, especially when they get pictures.

These jelly fish were "rare" last year when they showed up off the San Diego coast line. I saw them off La Jolla and Point Loma last year. Rare or not, they are very cool looking.

I shot these pics while finishing a Yukon dive sometime last year, is this the same species?

It probably is a Black Sea Nettle, Chrysaora achlyos. There were hundreds of them photographed at the Yukon a few years ago.
