The only thing it won't do is go into Gauge mode (bottom timer with depth, but no NDL calculations). This should only be a concern for those who plan to do decompression diving.
Found out this the hard way when I used a Mos as my backup timer, set my main Stinger to Gauge and the Mos to Free. The Stinger was cool, but the Mos started beeping at me and would display "Er".
So think about what type of diving you may wish to do in the future? If you have no plans to go tec then it should be fine. Personally I like the look of the stinger as I can wear it on weekends and even during the week, as it looks quite smart and functions very well as a day to day watch.

Bought my Mosquito from LeisurePro in May of '04, have about 20 or so dives with it and it works fine, although a bit conservative!
Question: I will be diving again in May/June of 2005 and figure I should be prepared to change the battery which looks easy enough, my question is about the 'seal' or 'o-ring' I assume it should be changed at the same time? Or use the same one (don't really like that idea) any hints on where to purchase the 'o-ring', and should it be changed each time the battery is changed?

What's the difference between free diving mode and gage mode?
"Free diving" mode assumes that you can't stay under for more than 6 minutes (reasonable assumption). It will go into an "ERROR" mode if you keep it in Free mode and dive with it. There are some other threads that suggest that this ERROR mode is as good as guage mode, if you don't use the Mosquito to track your nitrogen load. If you need/want a gauge mode, Mosquito might not be the computer for you. In my case, the Mosquito was just right.

I had to change battery once in my pre-warranty-replacement Mosquito and did not change the O-ring. I was advised by the assistant instructor that also used a Mosquito to just be very sure that the area was dry and that the O-ring was not pinched or bucked when the cover was replaced. It worked fine. Suunto recommends the O-ring and the battery cover itself be changed along with the batter, but that's going pretty far and didn't seem useful since the cover was in perfect shape.

My LDS sells a battery replacement pack, which includes battery, o-ring, and battery cover for $12. I went with it. Not a bad price to pay to protect your investment.

I had a Mosquito that I used on about 400 dives and over 800 free dives. Worked perfectly. Small enough to wear around which also meant no chance of forgetting to put on before a dive. It also worked well as a Brown Bear repellent (haven't been attacked by a Brown Bear in 39 years!) not to mention it saved me a few dollars on my car insurance! :eyebrow:
