Id go along with the others and say, get a Vyper.

Bigger clearer display and a gauge mode, otherwise not much difference.

Thx a mil guys! You've been very, very helpful.
I was also thinking about the Vyper. So I guess I have a little bit of pondering ahead. At least I see they're reliable.
Again, thx a lot.
More input is definetely welcome!!!:D

I'd recommend a Vyper right off the bat, if you like the small size, check into a Nitek Plus or Stinger instead.

Where did you find the watch band that would work with a Mosquito? I've tried a few and can't quite get the watch pins to work with any of the straps. Or put it this way I gave up trying after about 15 minutes of trying to get the pin in with a strap in that tiny little slot.

I was ecstatic and anxious on getting the mosquito this saturday, however since the majority of my dives are in the 80-90ft range than I guess not. what exactly do you guys mean by it being conservative?

No, it's not a problem. There are many people happily diving Suunto RGBM computers at those depths.

AFAIK, the Suunto computers modify parameters to be more conservative under certain conditions, where excessive bubbling is highly probable, such as rapid ascents, too short surface intervals, back-to-back multiple repetitive dives. That's where most of the conservatism comes in.

I actually think you've made a good choice. Unless you want (or need) a computer with a huge screen the Mosquito has got it all.

I have a Stinger and my wife recently bought a Mosquito. Whizzing through the functions there is no real difference between the two computers...

The Mosquito also had some serious looking strap screws which look less likely to part company with the computer than the strap on my Stinger.

Enjoy...

I'm on my second Mosquito, the first one went into dive mode on the surface showing 48'. The LDS sent it in and it was replaced with a new one. I have 10 warm water dives on this one, so far. It has worked perfectly! It is a backup computer for me and my primary is a Data Max Pro plus w/compass. They read very close on time and depth, etc. I notice that the watch crystal on the Mosquito seems to scratch easily. I have taken to wearing the provided plastic lens cover on it, which is alright in the water, but a little bulky on land. I have had good luck transfering data from the watch to my Macintosh computer. I had to use Mac Virtual PC 6 and a cable and USB converter that I got from a provider that you will see on this board. As a warm water computer I'm very happy so far with the Mosquito, however; I don't think that I would use it without a primary computer like the Data Max Pro plus or Suunto Cobra or Vyper. I have never really seen anything in the instruction manual about it, but I never leave the Mosquito set in dive mode. I'ts kept in time mode. (i did this because of the problem that I had with the first one.) As a watch it keeps accurate time, date, seconds and an alternate time zone. It tends to be a little bulky (especially with the lens cover on) and not very "pretty." It will "do" as a primary watch though. The safey stop timer is handy too, as the 'Max' doesn't do it. I'd go for the Suunto Vytec should my primary go bad, and that way they should be very compatable. :)

I think the face of the Mosquito is plastic, not crystal. The Stinger has a mineral crystal face like watches.

Yes, I think you are right! I have a Rolex GMT with a saphire crystal that never seems to get scratched. The first Mosquito I had did get some marks on it from just above water activities. I think my dog may have given the first one. :)

I think that in my first message I was looking for the word to use to describe that Mosquitos face (lens?) and tried crystal ;) (Sematics?):)

In any case "it" does scratch easily!! :out:
