I had a similar situation. While my son and I were treasure hunting with our metal detector, we found a cell phone, a nice one - apparently brand new.

We call the only number programmed on it, and it was a guy's girlfriend. She identified the phone, and said he'll be by soon.

The dude came, took the phone, and didn't even say hi, or thank you. My wife, son, and I thought that it was very rude. It is funny the guy even had a girlfriend!

But it does explain why she was the ONLY number in the phone.... :shakehead

Having worked my way through college in hotels (at the front desk) - there are so many times that I have done things for people that went above and beyond. Example: This guy left his car at the hotel when he went on a trip. I knew that he had a back problem and when he came back, he had a flat tire. I went out in the dark and changed it for him. It was a bloody great big truck. It was so much work but he didn't have AAA and didn't have alot of money. At least he thanked me, but that was it. I half expected a nice letter to be written to the mgr about it, but that never came.

I was pretty upset (not mad, but disappointed I suppose) about the entire situation. But, it was the start of something for me though - (1) learning to be humble and not expect anything from other people (something I am still learning to cope with) and (2) taking stock in the power of karma.

Now I do what I can - rack up those "karma points" as I call them. My husband thinks its nuts, but I figure - whatever, it might help me out somehow and I won't ever know.

Chin up - you probably racked up a bunch of karma points for your good deed.

And then lost them all by coming here and complaining for no monetary supplement for your good deed.

It's not a good deed if you are expecting payment.

Are you the keeper of the karma?

i didnt say i was expeciting money. I just thought I desereved a little more than a thank you
Deserved? What makes you think you deserve something in return?

People do good deeds for the sake of doing something good, not because they think they will gain from their deed.

You know that feeling in you chest when you handed him the ring. That's the reward, learn to cherish that feeling.

I stop and help people all the time. When I get them on their way and they try to hand me money, I just smile and shake their hand. I already got what I wanted. And I'm one of those cold New Yorkers everyone talks about. :)

I realize you're working and tips are part of your income but I bet you'd never come here telling us about the big tip you didn't deserve. :D

No, but he has definitely racked up a lot of good karma points. Jason is one of the most giving people I've ever met. I have been the recipient of his generosity many many times, and have never seen him expect anything in return. Thanks for being a good example for us all, Jason. :)

Don't dive with lures on your hands, big fish eat them.
