You would think so, but that was not the case. On this project if you reported any DCS you were then placed on non-diving status for 60 days I believe. I suppose that may be SOP for any diving operation (?).
This project was a big deal for the USN divers, especially since they were proving they could do deep dives, and of the experimental nature of the new tables they were developing through this project. There was a lot of pride and even more ego on that barge. Anyway, our DSO talked to their DSO, who mentioned the rumors that there were numerous unreported cases of niggles and other Type I cases that the guys tried to keep quiet so they could keep diving.
