...will be snorkeling with the manatees next Tueday morning (2/17) @ Crystal River and plan to 'drift' dive the Rainbow River that afternoon. Does anyone have nay comment regarding the RR experience? I am a veteran diver, but this will be a first. Good for photography..?

I have drifted RR a couple of times. Other that an occasional freshwater fish or turtle, I doubt if you will find much to take pictures of. The water is usually very clear so pictures of your dive buddies may be something to consider. If you are a reasonable free diver I would not bother with sucba at all. Max depth is in the 20 ft range with the average more like 10. In some places, you belly will rub through the grass. It's an OK trip and I would do it again but it's not a top 10.

Herman is right, it's a nice drift, you won't need scuba. All you'll need is fins. mask, dive flag and wetsuit. You'll see a few shellcrackers, black bass and of course you'll see manatees. The RR ia an exceptionally clean river and the residents there guard it with great zeal so read all the rules and play by them. It's a drift that worth doing. :palmtree: Bob
