I just did my first checkout dive for cert. at Rainbow River! I thought it was alot of fun and am so enthused to be apart of this sport finally. I've been wanting to get certified for so long now. We went down the river where the divers were and went down to the bottom which was 20 feet and practiced our skills and ascents and decents and it was a great experience. The water was cold but had top to bottom visibility which helped alot for my first open water dive. Next weekend we are heading out into the Gulf out of Dunedin for our second open water dive, and I have been told that it's gonna be more of a leisure dive, getting us used to deeper depths and the ocean marine life. I can't wait! Just thought I'd share the dive report, I'm really comfortable diving and have been since day 1, so I think scuba is here to stay in my life!

I figured out why they call it Rainbow River last weekend. I thought it was because of all the colorful life. Now I think it's because in the right spots, when the sun is bright, it makes these awesome rainbow lines that follow the ripples on the suface.

I also did my first night dive (ever!) in the river. It was something I'll never forget. Got so close to a 3lbs. largemouth that I grabbed him! Kept getting swoopped by bats on the midnight canoe up near the spring! :bat:

Rainbow River would be great for the first dive. Be glad you didn't do Hudson Grotto for your first dive. Visiblity was zero below 25 feet on Sunday. I think I could see 4 or 5 feet with my light.
