I am a big CCV fan! For what it is worth i swore i would never go to an all inclusive place, then was shocked to hear many people never leave the resort the whole week they stay there! I was ready to cancel! Said i would go once, that was about 8 years ago! Go at least once a year and going back for my second trip this year real soon!. Everyone has places they like but if you want to be able to really dive anytime you want 24 hours a day CCV honestly is that place! I have checked out Fantasy Island and talked to their guests and at least for me they are very different. Your two choices won't offer too much other than diving and i think you would find the diving much easier at CCV. Go check out the chat page at CCV and ask some questions!

P.S. Doc (Roatanman) you are wearing your helmet but where is the rest of the orange suit??? were you cold in the 85 degree water? lol!

Thanks for the thoughts Tim!:D

Yes, I guess I was. This was dive #6 for the day and although the low 80º's of Roatan's South side feels warm, maybe after 5 really long, pokey dives- I was ready for a Polar Fleece. That's the heaviest suit I take there, although Herself regularly wears a 3/5.

The helmet is a nice light mount system, but it has also protected my beautiful :eyebrow: face from numerous flippers.

Additional questions: I can rent either a Zeagle Ranger or a Dive Rite BPWW (aluminum or steel) for $50/week from the LDS. Which would you do:
A. Rent at the resort.
B. Zeagle
C. BPWW....

My reg crapped out at FI last year and had to rent one from them... Luckily a kind person on my boat loaned me a spare since I would not have been happy diving the rental! So if I was not bringing my own equipment I would rent from a quality LDS... Oh and FI ferried me to CCV to the full dive shop where they can do full repairs/sales. So CCV has the advantage of a full dive shop right there as well.

I've stayed at FI for two separate weeks. On both trips, they took us out to the wall for one night dive each week. There is unlimited night diving from the gazebo. Also, FI will, if requested, take an extra tank for you on the last boat dive of the day and drop you over the Prince Albert on the way back in.

I've been really happy with FI but have not been to CCV.

craracer,

whichever one you do book, go take a tour of the other and tell us what you think. I'm a CocoNut, I like the lack of night life. If I want to hear loud music, I go out on CCV's gazebo and listen to FIBR. Which is rare....

This is very good to know! Thank you!:)

See! This is why I love this place! I'm sure I would have never figured this out on my own, hence would have missed out on some diving.:shakehead:

I'll tell you what; I will try to take as neutral a position as possible and report back on both operations. I'll shoot some comparison photos, talk to people at both resorts, and if I run into the owners I'll hit them up for info.

I have made my decision: Drum roll......

I decided to go with Fantasy island. After thinking about it for a bit, I realized that I wasn't considering my wife's needs/wants. Although she is an avid diver, she's not as obsessed as I am.

She requires additional top-side entertainment in order to make a vacation complete and I felt that FI might be better equipped to provide this.

This quote, by the soft-spoken, ever humble RoatanMan, was what made me realize that I was being less than considerate:
If you are a diver in search of a dive vacation, go to CoCoView. (5x a day are easy, more if you push it)

If you want a vacation with diving, go to FIBR (3x a day, if you hustle)

I truly appreciate all of the input from each of you and am open to any additional helpful hints.

If you make it over to Cocoview try to say hi, my fiancee and I will be there Sept 13-20

Ike

PM me with your info and I will make a point of introducing my wife and I:D Maybe a dive or two together?

Either way, if for no other reason, we have to meet so that we can disprove Doc's statement about members from the different camps not meeting:eyebrow:

Make sure you request a room in the newer, or remodeled, wing. The rooms are a little bigger and nicer.

Have a great trip!
