This is a nice write up but it is no longer current with regard to getting to Southern Letye. There is now an early morning fast ferry going from Cebu City directly to Maasin, only 45 minutes away (at most) from the resorts. The report also states Southern Letye Divers is closed. That is not true. Southern Letye Divers, only a couple of km from Peter's and SBSR, and of the same caliber, never closed (except during lockdown) and continues to accept guests. And unfortunately, the Padre Burgos pier is off limits for night diving.

Anyone visited Southern Leyte this season? Consensus seems to be to book with Peter's for scuba diving.

I'm going to the Philippines in the next weeks and will hit up Malapascua, Moalboal, and Dumaguete. I'm deciding if it's worth heading over to Padre Burgos as well, mainly to see the whale sharks. I can't seem to find any info on how sightings have been this season.

Going there next week and will take the ferry to Massin and then public transfer to Peter's.
There are a few videos in Peter's FB.
Sighting is NOT guarantee so better book couple of the trip. No idea if deposit is necessary.
Linking up the four places is time consuming.
Good luck.

We are booked at Peter's for two weeks in late May. I guess that is just the end of the typical Whale shark season. Originally I had not thought much about whale sharks, but maybe it is worth a try.

I spent 10 nights at Sogod Bay Scuba Resort in January. The diving was excellent and the resort outstanding. Don't miss out on the excellent house reef right in front of the resort. Some of the biggest fish I saw in 18 dives were right here. The whale shark tour, which ran five? times when I was there saw sharks on every trip except the one I joined.:) The reason for this is undoubtedly because Annalyn was not on board. She is the good luck charm.

You guys keep posting about a "whale share tour". I assume by what you are saying that is a snorkel trip. Can you see whale sharks while diving or are they only in the deeper channels where you don't dive?

Can anyone suggest a whale shark tour company?

Peter's runs a dedicated snorkelling trip only.
Of course there is a extremely chance that divers might see a whaleshark while under water.
If you really want to see whaleshark then Oslob is the place but please do remember that is involving feeding.

Just emailed Peter's to book a spot on the whale shark boat. YEEEEE-HAAAA its almost diving time!

Hope you are having fun, and look forward to your report. We are headed back to Peter's in a few weeks ourselves. :clearmask:
