Other then a cost difference, are there any reasons against getting the Quick Disconnect feature on an AI computer? Are reasons against enough to outweigh advantages?

Thanks.

IMHO I believe a QD is essential if you're getting an AI computer. The advantages of being able to keep your computer separate from your regs far outweigh any disadvantages there might be IMO.

I agree with DiveMaven on this. Mine is QD.

Things that might be disadvantages:
- extra point of point of failure
- might forget to bring it
i.e. left it in the room and you are now on the boat
or worse, didn't pack it and its at home and you are on vacation.
- makes it easier to lose or for someone to steal it.
- might mix it up with your buddies if you both are using
the exact model.

I'm pro quick-disconnect if you are using an air intergrated PDC with hose.

Try to use the computer download kit with it connected to your regs once and you'll wish you had the QD. Imagine all you gear on your comp desk and trying to get an IR link to work. BTW what computer are you going to buy?

I use one and I see no disadvantages.

Completely agree about the QD being great when you want to download your dives to your PC. I realized recently that I had QD on mine (had been dragging the reg, octo, etc. around the house before --- yeah, I'm a doofus!) and it makes positioning the IR easier, lets me do the download while everything else is drying (and not dripping on the rest of the house, ...)

There are obviously some potential downsides but overall I think it is the right call.

YMMV

Had several with QD. My post is mostly a repeat of others.

Cons - Extra failure point, might forget the computer in room (seen/done before), can disappear.

Pros - Store separately from regs (regs go in checked bags, computers in carry on), easier for downloading, can remove from regs while crew is cleaning/off loading/swapping tanks/etc.

BE CAREFUL OF WATER INTRUSION

I bought a Pro Plus QD week before last and dove with it for the first time last weekend (deep Dive for six gill sharks). QD'ed it between dives to examine it/log in the boat cabin and upon preparing for Dive #2 the display failed on me with LCD segments displaying but not forming readable letters/characters. I was extremely careful when it was on deck (only two of us on my friend's boat) and it was not handled roughly nor did water get into the end of it.

I took it to the LDS and he claims to have seen this same failure several times when water intrudes within it. He swapped it for a new one and I didn't ask any further Q's but didn't understand how water could get inside because I imagine the end of QD is the hose line with the pressure transducer for the tank reading and should be water tight. Perhaps he meant through the battery seal?

Although the pro's and con's are covered comprehensively above, I will add that I have a QD on my Cobra, and I consider it essential.

Cheers,

Andrew
