Chuck: I subscribed to the yahoo group and am awaiting answers ;)

Wristshot: THanks alot for your reply, I think you made my list complete since everybody is repeating the same dive spots and dive shops. It will be easy with all those directions to find the right dive shop for me, thanks for your help.

la7176: nice hint - but I don't think that I will dive Nitrox with only like 10 dives :D

Well I was there finally!!! I took a dive in Monterey Breakwater and saw "The Tube". It was really awesome diving tho water temperature was chilling 40 degrees or something... the coldest I ever dived :) BUt the nature was quite interesting I can tell ya! Definately wanna go there again and see some more stuff then just the stuff you can go for from the beach.
I got my gear at the Monterey Dive Center directly at Cannery Row, very nice people there especially that bald headed guy (think that was Dave).

Thanks for all your advices guys. I drove a total of 6200 miles through the US - this was definately a highlight!

Moontear,

Glad that we all could help. After all, that is what this place is supposed to be all about. (contrary to some people's beliefs!) I like to think that all the explanations in the world just can't do justice to the amount and variety of life on almost any dive in Monterey. That is more than "home area pride", but a sincere belief.

The cold water can add to the challenge, but sometimes it separates the divers from the talkers.

Extra glad that you had a good time. Help us spread the word!

Where in Monetery is a good viewing for marine mammals(otters, seals..etc).

Planning on visting my Aunt and Uncle in San Fran. Going to Monterey on the way back.

You are highly unlikely to see an otter underwater. I've
seen one in almost 1000 Monterey dives. For Sea Lions,
dive the end of the breakwater.

If you want to see Otters from the surface, walk the trail
from the breakwater to Wharf II, and just keep your eyes
open.

End of Breakwater, can I snorkel there? I hope visibility will be good so a shark won't mistake me for a seal :11: :11:

Chuck Tribolet:
I've surface swum to the end of the breakwater with a
tank and 23 pound camera. Drop, play with the seals
for till about 1500 PSI, then work back along the breakwater
to the beach underwater.

It is a longish swim however.

How long did the surface swim take you? I've been to Monterey 3 times and never scuba dived there. So many people like it and I'm in. Are the seals always there or do they migrate?
