Paco:
If you're a bit nervous about the drift diving, I would recommend that your first one be an afternoon dive (they're shallower) and ask about Paradize Reef (Paraiso in Sp.). This reef is teaming with fish and only 40' deep. I think that after that one you'll have the confidence to do others. The diving off Plaza las Glorias is generally in 15 ft. of water, but you can see some old Spanish cannons and some fish but it doesn't compare to the reefs.

Are you sure that those are cannons? I've seen some things off Caribe Blu that sorta looked like cannons, but they turned out to be pieces of old drainage pipe.

Afternoon dives are not necessarily shallower. It depends on who you are diving with and what you reqest. We can do the same sites in the afternoon as we do in the morning, nothing changes just because it is an afternoon dive. You need to specify that you want shallow dives whether it is the morning or the afternoon. It may also be wiase to hire a private divemaster through your dive op the first day to help build your confidence.

Yes, they are two cannons sunk off Plaza Las Glorias. One is on the left hand side of the pier (when looking toward the ocean). It is difficult to access because of the boat traffic. The other one is on the right hand side, closer to the shore.

There are also two artificial reefs called "large pile of junk" and "small pile of junk" :-) Both have some interesting life in them, including shrimps, lobsters, scorpion fish and a resident moray eel. You can also find flounders, rays and octopuses.

I recently completed my Divemaster certification there, and as part of the certification I had to a map of the site. I have become quite familiar with it :-) It's a nice place to dive, alhtough obviously not as spectacular as some of the reef. Be advised that there is tpically a fairly strong current running south to north. You might want to plan your dive accordingly.

Cheers,
Arno.

I have some better pics, but this is the only one I have on the website.

Yep, looks like a cannon to me...

Como se dise en Español, "large pile of junk"? ;^)

PS&OT: What are you doing in Lake Charles? That's my home town.

We're building a resort/casino on Contraband bayou for Pinnacle. 26 story hotel, villas, parking garage, golf course, lazy river with pools.... hopefully by spring I'll be on a job that has a slower schedule and more time to dive.

Oh, yeah, over by the port. What did they end up doing about the monkeys?

That's a new one on me. Took a while to satisfy the Corp but we've found no monkey bones! :eyebrow:
I don't have any of our progress photos on my web host site, but you can click the web cam here to get an idea of the size.

We recently did some diving with some guys in Cozumel and the drift diving is awesome and easy. We did a wall dive at Santa Rosa that was AMAZING, fantastic dive in about 90 feet and then on to the paradise reef in about 40 feet. both dives were great and she is a fairly new diver. After a few minutes of diving she wanted to get the camera because she had grown so comfortable with the dive. If I remeber the group I dove with I will post it later ! :)
