Question re: CRESSI Aqualight-R BC

The current issue of Scuba Diving gave this BC a good rating for travel type BC's for warm water diving.

I bought one and it fits very well and I like the set-up. However, I would have thought there would (this is my first BC) some pockets for weight in the in the rear (trim?) but there aren't.

There is a big seam which runs from the back all the way to the front of the BC. If you were to put any weight in the back it would simply fall out because there no sealed bottom to the seam (see photos "Cressi1" and "Cressi2"). The opening can be seen on the bottom either side of the tank strapping


You can place weight more towards the front of the but the weight would likely move forward and you already have your regular weight pockets there.

I always thought you needed some way to add weight to the back of the BC (trim) but I can't figure this one out.

Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated.

I may be wrong here, but I am pretty sure mostly back inflate BC's use the trim pockets, while conventional jacket style BC's do not. As far as I understand, and my experience the main reason for the trim pockets on a back inflate are to prevent face down syndrome at the surface, while a conventional BC puts air up front around your waist to prevent it.

Are you having some kind of difficulty that you need trim weights?

I just got the BC and won't be using it till I go to Cozumel next month.

I guess I have to believe that there is no need for the weights in the back. At least I hope so.

The agualight is a travel light weight BC. The most weight it will handle without a belt is approxiamtely 12 pounds. This should be enough for a 3mm wetsuit in COZ. If you have a problem with trim put a few pounds on a weight belt in the middle of you back. It is a nice travel BC with three dumps and two tank bands works very well.

If it is because of all the talk about back inflation jackets pushing you face in the water, please ignore it. Plus, this is not a back inflation jacket.

BTW, it seems to me that the BC in mention was not designed at all for any weight in the back.

I have gotten several replies indicating that this BC doesn't require any weight in the back. Thanks for clarifying that.



Also, the front weight pockets can accomodate 2 4lb. square weights in each pocket.
