I have an atomic SS1 and it is a good set up for recreational diving. The only thing i didn't like about it was when donating air and using the SS1 to breath off of, it is very restrictive with how much you can move. I am getting into tech training this year so for that I will change to the long hose and a bungee back up.

not mentioned .. they make the inflator hose end heavy and on it's slightly longer than usual hose they want to hang down lower .. I've bungeed the hose to an upper D ring to help with that but I find I often dive with my hand over it and clutching to my body

I dive a wing with a shorter then standard hose as I find it simpler/less cumbersome to use- I attach it to my top left D-ring and only really use it to inflate (or to deflate on the surface), preferring my bottom right valve for trimming bouyancy as I ascend.
The bungee necklace for the alternative reg I find so much less mucking around also and never comes lose during a dive.

one more thing to consider ... the standard length hose that comes on your regulator is really too short to share with someone else ... While air sharing I found that if I had anything other than a bent arm as I held onto BC strap , the stock hose was pulling on the reg and almost out of her mouth ... I changed mine to a 43" one routed under my arm .. much better

I also use a 40" primary under arm now because it works better with air sharing as taught now. Back when there was no safe second and all hoses were short, when shareing air you held the other diver as close as possible and surfaces as if you were one diver. The short hose was usefull when dealing with an OOA diver that was reluctant to return the reg, a turn away from the diver would forcably remove the reg so you could breathe as well. I only had to use this procedure once, but after that experience and as the safe seconds came on the sene, I put one on my reg. I understood why it was called a gear solution to a skills problem, but it's easier to deal with a stressed diver when they have a reg in their mouth.

One of my buddies uses a short hose and an Air2 on his BP/W, and it has never been an issue. It may not be the most convient, but from my point of view, it beats buddy breathing on a doublehose.
