Hello: Those who strap their ponies behind them onto the tank, do you guys tend to roll over to one side or no?

Cheers -

CS

No. How does that differ from have the pony slung from the side? I've done it both ways and if I were carrying a pony for my use I'd strap to my tank. However since I'm carrying it for someone else's OOG situation I sling mine. When solo diving or deep diving I use ID's with regs with hose lengths not suited for gas sharing so, if I'm diving with a buddy who finds himself OOG, here's your tank hold on to it, your life is in your own hands.

I use a DiveRite Transpac.
I have a 19 cf aluminum tank/pony with its own regulator, attached to it with a Quick Draw bracket
I wear it on the right side of a HP130, LP 120 or HP149.
I had the issue you describe as I was definitely rolling to the right more than I cared for.
So......
I put a 2 pound lead ingot on my left side weight pocket in the summer when it is warm, and I do not wear a wetsuit.
I put a 3 pound lead ingot on my left side weight pocket in the winter, when I wear a wet suit.

And that's all the weight I need anyway.

My 19 cf pony is the best dive buddy I have ever had.

I offset the pony by putting 2-3 lbs more on the tank strap opposite the pony to balance it out underwater, it still is unbalanced on the surface but not a big deal.

I strap mine to my steel 100, and it's only a 13. I don't notice it.

I use 1lb offset in the left back pocket, my wife uses 2. In reality I suspect you can compensate for the pony without, as I don't take the 1lb out when I don't dive the pony and I don't notice being out of wack. YMMV.

Wookie makes a good note tho. I only dive a steel 100 or 120. The % of buoyancy change with my 19cu
pony may make it a non-issue vs using an 80. Just guessing.

Definitely want to coat the pony in olive oil. the lower density of the oil, will offset any negative buoyancy of the bottle and make you perfectly balanced.

I Lol'd.

Horse feathers! That's a red herring.

Like Wookie, I mount a 13cf pony on a steel hp 100, and don't notice any unbalanced sensation. FWIW, I mount it valve down, so under water the valve is right at my hip and I can easily turn it on or off during the dive. It can also be removed and handed off if needed without too much trouble. But so far I've never had to use it.
