When I dive with my rebreather I have a side mounted 40cf bailout bottle on the left--never noticed it being there at all.

No. You shift the weight. Dry suit diver uses 32lb.
I have a 'travel wing' (25lb) and I definitely notice a rolling sensation when the tank is attached behind- Nice compact wing but no good IMO for this configuration.I much prefer to sling it across my body where I do not feel much difference.
A larger wing may help as it could hold an air pocket on one side.
