Q about Vehicle break-in on Bonaire

I use a dry pouch Dry Pak 5"x 8" (12.7 x 20.3 cm) GPS/PDA/Gameboy Waterproof Case #DP-58

It holds a little cash and my glasses. I tuck it in the front of my wetsuit.

Does it stay dry to 130 ft?

If you are careful with the closing, it will stay dry. Get sloppy with the closing and you will end up somewhere between damp and soaked. It still works better than the small solid plastic containers. I had one implode around 95 feet.

I have a dive canister - like this one - that usually contains a personal locator beacon. But since I won't be out in the middle of the Coral Sea, or doing drift dives, I will use it for glasses, etc. Threads onto the waist band of my backplate, where a can light would normally sit.

Don't want the hinges on my glasses to rust...

As far as hideing things in your truck, I know someone that hid the jeep key under a rock and when they come back, the jeep was gone so sometimes they are hiding in the brush and waiting on you to leave so they might see where you are hideing things. Just a thought.

We made a hell of a mess in our truck with several sacks of garbage (well... food and candy wrappers, in other words clean garbage) in the back seat of the truck. Eye glasses and went in one of those. Truck keys were clipped on to one of our BC's. All we lost was a pair of flip flops (Reefs with the bottle opener in the sole) and the spare tire.

It wouldn't be cost effective for the police to run patrols all over the island worrying about a few pair of cheap sunglasses.

What's cost effective about negative PR that drives away tourist dollars? On an island with barely 15,000 people (+/-), they would get to the bottom of this situation if it was a priority. All it would take is a few cameras in a few rental trucks, and maybe the intestinal fortitude to throw the perps in jail.

5 trips and no issues..it seems bizarre but after day one it is no biggee. I stash my car keys under a close rock, no one has taken my glasses, shoes or flip-flops.
Dont get riled up..its a great Island-have fun! Get up north to Taylor Made and Candyland past Karpata and Bopek..well worth it!
