Need info ASAP, if i should bring my own regulator and b/c (scubapro equipment); have been diving for 20 yrs (this year!) and am having a very hard time finding out if i should bring this equipment (i will be taking my mask/snorkel)...should i take fins???

We stayed at Iberostar Dominicana and dove with the on site dive op. I used their gear and was pleasantly surprised with the regs, Apeks. The BC's were nice but check them out before you put them on the boat. I returned two with broken quick releases.

take your computer. I didn't take my bc or reg- because i was oly diving one day. and thought the gear at the resort was ok

Welcome to ScubaBoard! I'm sure that you are going to find someone that has all the answers you need. This person is NOT me, however, so I'll just say hello!! :) Let me know if there is anything that I can help you with while your learning your way around!! Have fun, and safe diving!!!

Welcome to scubaboard.

I'd take what you can fit. But the things that would be out of my baggage would be in the following order:
1- Exposure Suit (actually it'd never be in my bags)
2- BC
3- Regs
4- Dive Computer (oooh that'd be hard to leave)

I think it'd be easy enought to pack the fins, mask & snorkel

Let me know if you need help with dive center info.

Hey 237sparky! Welcome to ScubaBoard! I take all my equipment on trips. I have a roller bag dedicated to scuba gear, so it's really not an issue for me. I always carry on my regs and computer, because stuff gets tossed around and stacked on in cargo holds. Be sure to get a plastic case for your mask, and be careful to wrap something soft around your BC inflator.

If you decide to rent, definitely check your ENTIRE scuba rig before you walk out of the rental shop. I've seen some expensive dives ruined because of rental gear issues. Whatever you decide, have fun!!

Well, my husband and I just got back this past Monday from Punta Cana, DR. We stayed at Ocean Bavaro Resort. We did some diving with the Pelicano Sports people. If you are at this place, say Hi to Ingrid and Robert. We rented all our equipment. FYI, the pressure gauges are in bars not PSI. Nate and I both said that we'd bring equip next time we travel. They have weight belts. So, if you want to bring your bc then load it up how you normally do with their weights...whatever. I am not necesarily fond of weight belts. The masks were ok. You have to check their seals though, some were pretty banged up (tears and stuff). The fins were the non boot all inclusive foot kind. If you don't bring your fins, don't bring your boots. They had a pretty wide selection of wetsuits. We used shorties.

There was quite a bit of surge in Punta Cana. They have a couple diferrent wreck dives there. Most of their diving is between 35-45 ft. Not much fish life. Some okay coral. We took a day trip to Catalina Island. That was a little better. No surge, pretty calm waters. The water was super clear. There was a little more fish life, some nicer coral too.

Be prepared to run into very few native english speaking people. Most people there speak four or five different languages. There are lots of europeans.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have other questions. :)
