Anybody else having this problem? On our first dive on Saturday the shutter button kept sticking in the closed position. I'd shut off the camera and "flip" the button a few times and it would come back up (allowing me to take another pic) ... but then it would stick in the down position again.

During surface interval I took the camera out of the housing and tested the button a few times, and it worked fine. Put the camera back into the housing and took it diving again and it worked quite OK too.

This happened once before. I'm thinking somehow that little shaft that comes down thru the housing to press against the shutter button is somehow getting "cocked" to the side a bit ...

Try some 100% Food Grade Silicone in a pump spray bottle - use an eye dropper and put a couple of drops on button shaft from the outside and repeat for the inside. Work the button a bunch of times. That might lub the little o-ring and free up the mechanizm.

You can also take the button assembly apart for a more thorough cleaning.

Obviously, if the shaft looks cocked, possibly from a worm o-ring, you'll need to remove the assembly and check it.

Gilligan has has some worth while info at his site.

Happened to me once. I pushed it a few times and pulled up. It cleared. I did my usual post dive soak and it hasn't happened again. I suspected a little salt on the shaft. I always push all the buttons about 20-30 times under fresh water when I clean it. I'm planning on doing the drop of silicone thing, as salt just gets everywhere and I know that permanent lubrication can be less than permanent. Just don't overdo and flush the lube from behind the o-ring I think.

Well, none of the above worked.

Today the camera let me down big-time. The shutter got stuck on both dives ... to the point where I couldn't even force it to fire. The aggravating thing is that I got back on the boat, took the camera out of the housing, and the damn thing worked just fine. But underwater, it just kept jamming.

It's back to the Fuji for me ... this POS goes back where I purchased it.

They're supposed to last longer than two months ...

Bob, sorry to hear about that. Your pictures were looking so darn good! Is it the camera, the case or ? do you think?

It's definitely the housing ... the camera is fine.

maybe you just got a lemon....exchange the housing?
Yeah ... that's the sensible thing to do ... ;)

I did manage to get a couple of decent shots before it died ...

Those are good shots :D

Good luck with what ever you choose ;)

I have had this trouble too when I had my Olympus C-7070 and housing. What I was doing wrong, I wasn't lifting the button mechanism up far enough before inserting the camera, thus the camera being slightly off. Once I got the positioning down, I didn't have any further trouble. Just my .02 cents worth.
