I see from the following link that PST got a DOT renewal until Aug 07. What happens after that point? If they are in business they can apply again and if not it expires and the tanks are useless? Are there still concerns about the company folding?

I'm consiering replacing my 8 AL80's with steel and want to be cautious here.

J...I did a lot of research on this topic in Sept. 2005. I don't know what the current state of affairs are, but if you want some history behind the exemption, then check out the following thread:

http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=112355&highlight=realdiver7

Make sure to read my update near the bottom of page 3. This was a very hot topic last September, but things have calmed down now since the exemption renewal. There are other threads you can find, and one of them is referenced at the beginning of my thread.

I do not wish to get involved in pursuing this any further, but I just wanted to pass the historical perspective along to you. Some divers sold their PSTs, and others kept them. It's really a matter of your own personal choice. Maybe someone else will chime in and give you a current update on PST. You also have other tank manufacturer options to choose from.

I like my steel tanks, and changed over from aluminum 80s to steel 100s a couple of years ago for recreational (not teaching) diving. I am now able to dive with 5 lbs. less weight. The biggest headache for me is that sneaky flash rust that always shows up on the inside at one point or another. No big deal, but just more of a consideration with steel than aluminum because if left unchecked for a while pitting could begin.

I hope this helps.

Read all the old threads, but the short version is it shouldn't be a problem. There's a fairly simple process by which someone else can apply for renewal of the exemption if PST lets the ball drop.

Yes, I read those already before posting. Just wondering if there was anyone with a current state of affairs on the company, or if they were still on a shoe string.

Okay, thanks!
