Hi,
I’m curious about weighting when diving with a back plate and wing system. There’s a lot of information about weighing out there but I’m still not sure I’m properly weighting myself.
The gear on the tank:
Halcyon infinity Bp/w bcd. 30 pound wing and 1 pound aluminum plate. (No tank adapter)
Atomic brass 1st stage
Misc. gear not worth mentioning for weight
What I’m wearing:
Thin fourth element thermocline hood (2mm)
3mm full wetsuit
6.5mm fourth element boots
Mask (atomic frameless)
Apeks rk3 fins
Overall, I’m using about 9-10 lbs in the pool. The tank/bcd rig is neutrally buoyant in pool (with 500psi in the tank) So all of the weight seems to be needed for the wetsuit/fins/mask I’m wearing. I should also note I weigh about 150 lbs.
Does this seem right? After switching to a back plate wing system, I was told I should be able to get my weight down to about 6 or 7 pounds. Obviously it’s hard to know for sure without testing in the water. I’m wondering if 10 pounds sounds like too much weight in the pool. Wouldn’t this mean I need about 14 pounds in open water?
Any insight is greatly appreciated!
Just want to make sure I’m not overdoing my weight.
