For what is worth, when I learnt to dive in December 1980, the certifying agency was FAUI, Federation of Australian Underwater Instructors. The deepest dive on the course was 22 meters (72 feet). By July 82 I had reached 34 meters (114 feet) a month later 37 meters (122 feet) all done on a single al 88 cu ft tank. By October I was doing a CDAA cat 2 course and hit 40 meters in a sinkhole called Little Blue, once again on a single 88, following the rule of 1/3 it was an 18 minute dive. CDAA had a 40 meter depth limit for cat 2 divers. If FAUI had any recommended max depth I can not recall it, or find any information in the manual

The CDAA course was about the only advanced course in those days, If PADI was in Australia it was a low key presence.
