I've had this Nitek Duo for about a year...with about one hundred dives on it.

On my last dive, while completing a safety stop at 20 ft, it started doing something really weird: It started flashing "slow" and the depth started jumping from 20 ft to 10 or 11 ft and back down to 20 ft again. This was pretty odd, considering I was at 20 ft and not actually changing depth at all! Other than the "slow" and the depth change, the rest of the information seemed to stay accurate. It quit doing this and acted normally during the last minute of the safety stop, and during the rest of my ascent.

Is the computer screwy, or do I just need to change the battery or something? I think it's still under warranty, but I would hate to have to send it back.

Thanks,
Rita

Sounds familiar - Here's a description of two similar incidents with my Duo:

Problem Description:

I was diving with the enclosed Dive Rite Nitek Duo on Sunday, April 13, 2008 in fresh water between 70-80 feet, water temp. 59f when the computer started flashing its backlight, changing display depths at random (80, 73, 56, 79, 42, etc.), giving ascent warning, and an almost maxed out N2 graph on the left. It continued to do this for around 10 minutes then returned to normal around 50ft with seemingly correct dive calculation information.

I had noticed this only once before in February, but at that time it lasted so briefly, that I was unable to see what was displayed, just noticed the flashing lights, and assumed it was an ascent rate warning or some other alarm. At that time, my depth was around 30? This second and longer occurring instance has caused me to believe the product is defective and needs replacement (preferred) or repair under warranty.

The computer is less than one year old and has 39 dives on it.

I sent the computer to DR w/ the above explanation and all they did was change the battery after taking it for a test dive in the chamber. This left me a bit concerned, that something as simple as a battery could cause that kind of issue. However, I've had no problems since, so maybe it's really that simple.

Might try replacing the battery and see if it happens again - at least with the Duo it's easy to do :D

Hi Rita,

It could be a battery issue. If you have any concerns feel free to send it in to us for an evaluation.

The warranty on the computers is 2 years, so don't hesitate to send it in if you continue to have problems.

Best,
Ag

Thanks! I'll just replace the battery, I guess. If that doesn't work, I'll send it in.

Rita
