i haven't hear about hig reg's yet so i guess i should read the other active thread about hogs :) thanks!

I bought a MK17 two years ago for my wife and she used it about 400 times. She absolutely did NOT like to go below about 80ft with the kit. The 2nd stage was a 655 I believe and she didnt think it breathed well at all. She then took an extra Legend LX we had for a dive and promptly claimed that reg setup permanently. The 2nd stage she ended up with is a KM400 and now she has done deco dives to 50m with no issues.

On the other hand, I use the MK17 on my doubles and dont mind them. For singles I use either a Legend or an Apeks XTX200 with KM400s for 2nd stages.

the mares abyss reg has a big following as well many ice divers use the extreem version of it. again the mares regs are easy to work on as a classic downstream reg and most of thereregs use one of two 1st stages mr32, mr42 they are balanced diaphram. they have regs that range from techno polymer to all metal to carbon fiber. have a look and check local servicing.

someone suggested aqualung mikron... any thoughts about this reg?

:edit: then i talked to my friend just a while ago via phone... she told me the model of her apeks reg is xtx50 and her nearby lds repairs them...

any thoughts on the said regs?

The Aqualung Mikron would fit the criteria that you posted originally. It is small and lightweight, good breather and is easy to work on. The Milflex hose is really popular now a days and this regulator comes with one.

The Apeks XTX50 is a great regulator. It is a step above the Mikron. It is heavier but it has adjustable 2nd stage (identical to all XTX models).

The Mikron has been around a little over a year. The people that I know that own them purchased them because of the size and weight. These are divers that travel once a year to a warm destination.

The XTX50 is popular with the local cold water diver. It is a work horse reg. I am personally more familiar with the DS4 first stage which is basically the same first stage without the revolving turret that the XTX50 has. The revolving turret does not work very well for a twin tank configuration.

I know that this is in the future as your previous post mentions. If you decide to move into the technical world make sure what you are buying will fit the future. I personally would not put a Mikron or a Apeks Flight on my back gas rig. I would go with a Apeks XTX50/DS4 DIN. Or as I mentioned in my earlier post, Scubapro MK25/G250V.

I don't think that cold water should be of any concern for you if you are sticking put in SE Asia. You would have to worry about spending your money on a drysuit first before making decisions on a regulator.

hi guys! i went to our lds and asked the sales person for their sherwood's reg and she said it's a sherwood maximus. has anyone or knows someone who have used them?

thanks!

This is Sherwood workhorse regulator. It is a popular regulator for cold water divers because of the 1st stage piston sealed system prevents any freeze up. It also has a moisture/heat retention system on the 2nd stage that works for preventing 2nd stage freezing and avoids dry mouth when diving in warm salt water.

Sherwood SR1/SRB1000 which is their top of the line regulator. They had to come up with this regulator because non of their regulators could compete with Scubapro, Apeks, Aqulaung, Oceanic, (clones) otherwise. Sherwood regulators don't breath as well as the above mentioned top and mid line regs.

If you feel that your relationship with this LDS is important, then heed their advice. If you feel that you can make a decision independent of them then look around and read the past advice posted here.

thanks jim :)... the ds i usually visit to get my stuff is 3 hours drive from here... i just got a tip that we actually have an lds in this area (1 hour drive)... the lds was the one who recommended me the sherwood reg.

i think i have to put the thinking cap on and ponder on what my pick would be :)
