One time, when I was on tour with one of the bands... We were in Eugene, Oregon, when at the time, VP Gore was also in town, staying at the SAME HOTEL... it was the Hilton. Our hotel was surrounded by cops and secret service, they were all over the lobby, elevators, parking garages, everywhere... I tried to trade laminates with a secret service guy, but he didn't go for that. But he DID let me check out his cool secret service walkie talkies, with the stealthy earpiece, and the hand held microphone with the wire through the sleeve...

If you guys think it's bad on driving, try flying. He closes down more airspace than anybody could even dream of doing. If he's around there's usually a 30 nm notam that says something like, 'don't come round here no mo...' and heaven help you if you do.
The notams are also not pin point accurate, the TFR follows his caravan and so not only does he close airspace for 30 miles, it's a moving target that they won't tell you exactly where to avoid, until you hit it when you're screwed.
I'm not mad at GWB or this, but I am upset in general that it's such a large TFR and the poor little planes are not as likely to cause him problems as contrasted to moving vans and things like that.

I hadn't thought about this before, but a small plane could be crashed into the Presidents motorcade.

Yes it could but without great intelligene it would be a crapshoot. When they blast through up here they post blockades at every intersecting street. Ahead of the motorcase a stae police trouper blazes the trail tellin spectators and others to stay put, and they mean it!
Then the motorcade follows spaced out at high speed using both lanes of a two lane road in a staggered patern. Usually about a dozen big black SUVs one containing the president and other escort / support vehicles before and behind. It's quite a sight.
While the air space is being monitored I'm sure there is an action plan if there is an intruder.
We have some friends with private aircraft and they dread being grounded when they come on a holiday weekend.

One day I would like to get a group of people together rent some SUV's and go around and take turns being the important person. Obvioulsy we couldn't travel around with police escort, but it sure would be fun rolling up on a mall entrance or a hot night club with 4-5 SUV's and people all get out at the same time etc...LOL
That would be cool, let's have an SB get together in Vegas.

Vegas would be a good place to do that...until I walk in to gamble and go straight for the nickel slots. :/
