Trying to plan 10 yr anniversary trip, wife and i are both experienced divers, first trip to Coz. Presidente looks nice on website but always want to hear from you guys first. Basically the question is.........is the presidente worth the extra cost?

Also which dive operator should i go with if i stay there?

And what are the "can't miss" dive sites for Coz?

Thx for Any Help

DD

I've asked a MOD to move this to the Coz forum, where there is sure to be somebody that can answer all your questions. Enjoy Coz, it's a wonderful place :)

If you can afford it... yes. I haven't been there since the remodel but I'm sure that it's out of this world nice.

My wife & I used to stay there all the time, now that we know people on the island and all the great restaurants all we do is sleep in the room, the rest of the time we're in town so we stay "cheaper" now. Keep that in mind... as well as if you're planning on adding afternoon & night dives, you may not be at the resort for as much time as you think.

If you're looking for a great place to spoil the wife (but not do AI, which most of us won't advise anyway) then The Presidente would be the right choice!

Another great thing about The Presidente is it's the closest hotel to town that has a real beach. That may score you some extra points.

Virtually any dive op will pick you up there, The Presidente is literally right next to the Caletta (Harbor). I use Blue XT~Sea exclusively but there are a lot of great dive ops on the island. Do a bit of browsing of the forums and you'll find 10 or so names that keep popping up. You'll do just fine with any of them, it's going to depend on what you want.

Pick one of the "boutique" dive ops and you'll go to all the good sites... that is for certain.

Sent you a private message. Will be glad to talk with you. I have stayed at the Hotel MANY times.

We haven't stayed there, but we did have dinner there in October. We were able to eat there the night the restaurant reopened, a week before the hotel actually opened back up. The food was great!! The hotel looked beautiful, from what we were able to see.

In one word-no.

We stayed there for several years but the price has gone from 50% higher to 300% higher from what I can see (Funjet and Apple).

The hotel was gorgeous and should be now. Scuba Du was a great dive op, I hope it is as good. The shore dive was good but last July when I snorkeled over it, the reef was trashed.

Casa Mexicana works better for me. A condo at El Cantil probably would work better. Some of the condo rentals in the north have been better.

The Mrs. and I just got back from Presidente on Thursday night after a week's stay. There is not anywhere more beautiful or relaxing than Presidente Cozumel. We stayed there in '04 and '05, and yes... I bit on "The Club" offer that will be hawked to you when you get there. The remodel has improved the beauty of the place with all new landscaping that looks like it has been in place for years. There is absolutely no evidence of the hurricane anywhere. They have taken the square, boxy walkways and replaced them with winding pathways through beautifully landscaped grounds. The rooms are huge, super clean, incredibly comfortable beds, thick towels as big as bed sheets, super food, and attentitive and friendly staff. It is the perfect place for a romantic anniversary celebration. It is a world-class destination hotel.... BUT... It is expensive. The breakfast buffet is $20, but I ordered off the menu for breakfast for about $10. They make the most incredible French Toast in the world. Even the coffee is good, which is something in Mexico. To me, it is worth it... But I'm at a point in my life where I can afford it.

I dove 5 days with Blue XTSea, and they picked me up at the hotel pier every morning at 8:30, and dropped me off at around 12:30. You cannot go wrong with Christi and Blue XTSea, and there are so many great sites to dive - don't worry about a "don't miss" place. The pier at Presidente is right at the big Palapa that covers the main restaurant, right on the beach. It couldn't be any more convenient.

The Mrs. is a beach and book fan, and does not dive, and thinks Presidente is the nearest thing to heaven.

So... dive in the morning... have lunch and relax on the beach in the afternoon... have a nap... then head to town for dinner - it's a $5 cab ride.... Take her to Casa Mission and have the mariachis sing "Sabor a Mi" ... your wife will melt in your arms ... you'll love it!

Again... if you can afford it... it is perfect for an anniversary trip...

¡He Dicho!

Try Cozumel Palace; you can't go wrong there either...

You talked about staying cheaper in a post. Where, what, how much cheaper, noise, access to descent restaurants, you know the drill.

We are planning on going in June 2007. Yes the weather is nice at home in June and may be able to dive with only a 7 mil. It just works out that way.
