Hey all, just saying a quick hello while I work on my classwork for the PADI open water diver course. I've been looking forward to learning to dive for a really long time and hopefully I'll be certified before the year is out. Quick question also... is there a thread on this site that compiles all the dive acronyms and jargon so a newbie can look for a translation?

Nice name! Now I know two gals here by it. Hope I don't get confused, as that happens to me a lot.

:wave:Welcome to the Scuba Board. :hi: Fun place to hang out, compare, argue, etc. :thumb:

Hi Kamala, good luck with the OW course... you'll love diving I'm sure. Any plans to take the advanced after? There's a few posts under general scuba diving on advice for taking this after... ie whether it's best to wait and get experience or to take it straight after.
Whatever you decide good luck n happy diving. One thing to bear in mind is that on scubaboard what people say is largely an oppinion and noone's opinions are right or wrong.

On the jargon side... dont worry too much, it's like anything - you'll pick it up as you go along and you'll probably have plenty of oppurtunities to make your own jargon up too!!

Now you know one girl and one guy (me) named Kamala !:D No worries, it happens often. My real name is Mike, but Kamala got stuck to me back in HS and it's been sticking for a long while now.

Thanks to everyone for the hearty welcomes! I'm not sure what my future plans are just yet, the array of options is dizzying. I currently live in the Boston area, but that's just till I graduate in June. I'm taking my course down in Key West where my girlfriend and I will be visiting her Dad for a few weeks during winter break, but we'll be moving to the Seattle area after graduation. I'll probably want to get some dry suit training, just so I have it as an option in the Pacific Northwest, particularly since my gf is a wuss about the cold and will definitely want to go dry anyway. AOW, wreck training, and underwater photography all seem intriguing as well. Can't wait to get started though! Seems like diving in Key Largo might be a bit more fun than finals and snow shoveling in Massachusetts!

Hi Mike:
Kamala is such a unique name. How did it get "stuck on you" in high school?
