Here is a quick procedure that will prevent surprises and significant emotional events.
- Put the first stage on the tank, ensure that the valve is closed, and try to breathe from the second stage - you should not be able to draw breath.
- Press the purge button on the second stage and slowly open the tank. As pressure rises, release the purge button; open all the way. The sequence may prevent HP hose damage.
- Note the HP reading, close the tank valve. Let the tank sit for a few minutes, then check the pressure again - it should be the same. Performing this step in water will let you see bubbles if there is leak.
- Put the tank in the water and breathe from the second stage to confirm functionality.
