Even an old guy can get lucky on occasion. Shot a 22 lb and an 11 lb halibut on the same dive Thursday at Santa Cruz Island, CA in 60 feet of water.

Quick shout out to @JMJ Wetsuits who made my very warm and comfortable suit!

Your picture with the metal to metal connected suicide clip used while spearfishing with a line on your gun catches my eye.

Where did you get the idea that rigging like that was a good idea?

Good eye! I had that clip on there from my last lobster dive for attaching my game bag. I simply forgot to remove it. My bad. Much safer without it on when dealing with any kind of line. Goes to show that age does not always equate to wisdom

So you've given it some thought and still think it's normal to shoot a grouper, won't make you any taller mate

"Black groupers can reach up to 52 inches (133 cm) in length and can weigh up to 179 pounds (81 kg). Most of the black grouper that are caught average a little over 2 feet in length (70 cm). They can live over 30 years, but most of the growth occurs during the first ten years of life."

Just returned from my annual Halibut Hunt to Santa Cruz Island, California. My friend Chris, on left, with his 32 pounder and me with my slightly less 11 pounder. 😠 Visibility was only a few feet in most areas so we spooked a lot of halibut before we could line up a shot.
