Measures are being taken to upgrade the physical security of the area surrounding Sharm El-Sheikh in the wake of an attack earlier in 2005:

Its not clear how much actual risk reduction will occur as a result of the access control measures, however, attempts to control vehicular access are unlikely to make the area LESS safe.
