Hi all.
Just got back from a month of diving in Indonesia.
We hit the coast of Bali pretty hard - and checked out the U.S.A.T Liberty wreck as our first few dives.
On our very first dive, we hit ~28m, and suddenly, my wrist felt a little odd, and warm. Looked at my watch (Suunto Mosquito, maybe 2.5 years old, max) and it simply said "Er" on the display. It wasn't flooded. It wasn't in a deco mode, or a "you have exceeded your ascent rate" mode. It was just in an "Er" mode. No depth showing.
We got back to the surface, to the hotel room and cleaned it very carefully. No love. Took the battery out and reset the unit completely.
Took it on the next dive and, unfortunately, it no longer had the ability to sense depth at all.
I gave up on the unit until I had time to get back to Australia.
I took it to my local dive shop - and they looked at it for a bit and said "Well, it's under a 5 year warranty - so let's send it off and see what Suunto come back with"
So - 8 days later, this morning, I've had a phone call from the dive store:
"You might want to come down. Christmas has come early for you".
I got there, and it seems Suunto had taken it upon themselves to give me a brand spanking new D4, complete with a new perpetual 5 year warranty on the new unit. Quite an upgrade, and free!
I believe Suunto deserve some public recognition on my behalf for very nice customer service!
Cheers.
