... I've had a lot of soft mud in them, without any issues.

I was meaning about the changing second stages out underwater, something that should be avoided while encased in mud.
Did you ever hear the story about the Cyklon that had been laying on the bottom for 2-3 years & it still worked? They had to rinse the mud out first & they did a normal annual service on it anyway.
