Just a quick question - can the Cyklon 300 be made nitrox compatible? I have one as my primary with a yellow Odin as my octo - can't seem to find any info as to whether they are/can be made used with Nitrox.

TIA,

Yep, no problemo. Viton kits are available from "the factory".
Poseidon is extremely conservative on their "O2 ratings" though, they don't even recommend ChristoLube, which is the normal standard O2 service lube for just about all the other mfgrs.

Is the procedure something that needs to be done by a qualified technician or is it a matter of replacing the O-rings and using the proper "factory" lube?

Also have another question - I have been offered a place on a team through the National Science Foundation to dive and shoot video in the arctic to document the scientists doing work there for 2 weeks - what would need to be done to my regs to prepare them for diving in such cold conditions?

Don't know specifically the regs you have, but go out and buy a set of environmentally sealed regs specifically designed for cold water diving.

Ken - I have Poseidon Regs - my primary is a cyklon and my octo is an odin - DIN valve with yoke adapter and poseidon analong gauges

...my understanding is that Poseidon sells an environmental kit, a rubber 'cap' that is filled with alcohol and installed on the top of the 1st stage, not as elegant a solution as the environmental kits on some newer regs, but it works.

I own/dive several Jetstreams without the 'kit' as I don't dive cold waters, so I don't have personal experience with the Poseidon kits, however, I do own/dive several other regs with different types of environmental kits:

Atomic B1 ( Christolube filled piston 1st stage )
Mares Ruby ( silicone-oil filled diaphragm 1st stage )
Apex XTX 200 ( dry-sealed diaphragm 1st stage )

And as far as "nitrox compatable" - if recreational nitrox mixes... ie 32, 36, most take the line that you do not have to do anything to any reg. Only if getting above 40% mixes. I dive 32 in multiple regs - titanium, pistons, diaphragms, yes, even with my poseidon... and never had any problem - and there are no reports of anyone having a problem at those mix levels. So it depends on what nitrox mix you plan on diving.

standard rec blends - 32/36%
