Trying to help a buddy out - he has a ca. 1992 (serial # starts with 92/....) Poseidon P100 compressor (believe these were made by Bauer) compressor that has a broken 2nd stage intercooler pipe. I haven't seen it yet so don't know the exact failure mode.

A quick search at the usual places seems to indicate that these parts are no longer available new (not that surprising). I suggested that on Monday he start calling August Industries and Filtertechs to see if they have any ideas.

He's meticulous about maintenance so this is otherwise in great condition, but it's been all over the world and I can't imagine that these little gas powered pumps don't see some vibration in normal use. We did an air analysis on it recently and it came back with great numbers so I believe that it's a solid unit other than this recent development.

Any ideas? Anybody have a spare lying around they might want to part with?

If this is aluminum tube like a Mako has, I've weld repaired many of them.

No idea of metal yet - I would have assumed stainless, but I'm not a compressor engineer... I think it's going to bring it by tomorrow though and I can look for that.

Basically find a good tig weldor?

A really good one. That thin aluminum is hard to weld. My guy used 4043 rod.

I would imagine so!

Is bending up a new one an option?
Yes, if you can find the 8MM tubing with the correct wall thickness, and build the correct jig to bend it.

Another option is to use a water cooling jacket if this is on a boat installation. You can build this yourself cheap, and never have a moisture issue in your air again.

I've seen folks take a piece of PVC pipe, coil as much or as little tubing as they want, and run seawater through it. For the final stage, you will want high pressure tube of course, but for the first and second stage, copper tubing will do just fine.

Travis, I recently retired as the CEO and owner of August Industries Inc. When I retired this past January, I collected a mountain of new old stock vintage parts for Bauer Compressors. These parts are all NOS, New Old Stock, that the new owners did not want to purchase. Vintage Bauer is now my hobby work.
The intercooler you are needing is still available from Bauer, but none are in stock currently in the US. This part is the very same as a 1992 JR. The intercooler is only sold as a complete part with attaching hardware and is known as #067040 (same as your image #45) The new price is stupid high.
I have 3 units in my collection and would be happy to sell you one at a very attractive price.
I will send you a DM with my contact information next.
Good luck!

Nice, Porter.

Glad to see you still have a hand in.

Got your DM and replied with contact info for the compressor owner. Thanks, Porter! Great to hear that you're planning to keep these older units going.

I have had mine welded too peope bend them working on them and then they can also rub through
I would set myself up, buy a mig tig stick, and learn to weld, before sending extra money bauers way

Oh that's right I have
