I just got back from diving Catalina, San Clemete, & Satna Barbara Islands. The visibility was the worst I have ever seen there (10-15 ft.)

I have been to the islands approx. 15 times before with great vis. each time. does any one have an idea whats causing the poor vis? The boat captain didn't know why.

I am heading back there the end of this month for the Lobster hunt. just hoping it will clear up by then.

No Conditions were the same at San Clemente, But Santa Barbara was better.

I started a new thread with my thoughts on why the vis has been so poor, at least on Catalina. You might search for it and see my explanation plus the comments of other posters.

Thanks DrBill

I read your article and helped a lot, I guess I will just have to wait and see what the tide brings! I still enjoy diving the Islands even is the Vis. isn't perfect.

Is there any evidence of a correlation between this low vis. / high temp pattern that we are experiencing and El Nino years? Have any of you felt that these temperature fluctuations made an impact on the kelp forests?
